Finally, I am biased toward not using a laptop at the scope. My confidence

Even though I have the luxury of working from a small observatory, I
agree that using a laptop at the scope is not an optimal solution. It
will get in the way at some time or other.
But:
I use a 20D with a right-angle finder/magnifier Perhaps it's just a
lack of experience on my part, but I have no confidence that I can
achieve fine focus unless I bring the images to a laptop immediately
for inspection in what is usually a brief iterative process of focus,
inspect, focus, inspect... However bad my images may be as a result of
other errors, they /will/ /be/ in focus!
