Thinking About a new scope

I want to get serious -- like to do some imaging as well. I have a 4"
Newtonian that's about 15 year old -- great shape but the tripod wiggles so
much you can hardly use the higher magnifications.

Given a budget of $3K, what's the best deal ? Kinda thinking that an 8" SCT
might be nice but not sure

Main interest is in galaxies an nebulae, and globular clusters

Scope needs to be motorized and it handle a canon DSLR for imaging.

Any pointers to help with the decision process ?
