One of the problems you may run into when using other cameras is that
fact that the camera software does undesirable "processing" of the
image even when you tell the camera to give you a RAW format image.

The Canons are a known quantity in that the RAW image is excellent
straight from the camera for astrophotos. Not to offend anyone, but if
you check out some of the images shot with the Nikons and it is
apparent that the stars are just not rendered with the same fidelity
as with the Canons. The Canon's sensor also has a nice natural
blooming effect for brighter stars in your photos.
