Why the 300D? I see a lot of quality DSLRs being advertised now---Olympus

So what does the 300D have over these?
The models you quote above do not have removable lenses to easily
adapt to astrophotography. I have an Olympus 4040Z that is great for
day work, but the noise at ISO 400 is absolutely horrible. It is not
useful for astro work. Most consumer digicams are similarly bad in
high ISO performance.
You want to see the difference? Take a look at these two images of the
Pleiades:
Olympus digicam:

Canon 10D:

Any questions? I couldn't get any longer exposures out of the Olympus
before the image degenerated into useless noise and the colors of the
stars don't even register.
The Canon's are popular in astrophotography for their low noise
performance even at high ISO setting, thru-the-lens focusing with the
ability to send images over the USB port to a laptop on demand,
excellent collection of accessories, and excellent RAW image
performance (i.e. minimal camera software interference) for astro
shots.
Don't fight the system bro.
