Sorry Ed, but your response seems a bit of a non sequitor to me. I was explaining the purpose of the CometObs group, not trying to denigrate people for not being interested in comets. The OP (and I though perhaps you) seem to have a misunderstanding about the purpose of CometObs.
The fact is, I think more people would be interested in observing comets--and I'm not talking about discovering them--if they were easier to find, and that's what I'm trying to help with.
Clear skies,
Greg

Seems many (?Some?) of the Serious Comet Hunters have memorized much (if
<gasp> not all of what their Scopes or Bino's can show them in relation to a
given Star Field and only require RA/DEC for reporting purposes!
Unfortunately the OP found his way into my kill file a long time ago
(for good reason).
Kill Files are a personal choice. Your reasons are yours.
Ed, I think you are kidding, but in case you are not: my CometObs group serves
an important purpose.
I'm not for the select group of Visual Comet Hunters that spend almost
each clear Evening and Morning hunting new interlopers down. Their Years and
thousands of hours observing with their equipment results in an amazing
knowledge of the skies.
Your Web Page is a great resource (heck if I didn't think it were I sure
wouldn't have referenced it!). But as to why some choose to not be
passionate about Comets - Different Strokes........ I enjoy Galaxies and at
the opposite end of the Spectrum, Wide Field views through my Bino's.
Other's are into Planets. I even knew a guy that spent YEARS only looking at
the Moon. That's the nice thing about this Hobby, so many different aspects
and ways to enjoy it.
