Has the moon moved?

Hi
I have just driven back from Oxford to London (England), down the M40
which runs more or less South-East to London (maybe a little bit more
East than South). On my journey which took about 1 1/2 hours and
started at about 21.00 GMT, I noticed that the moon which appears to be
nearly full was always to my right hand side. Sometimes it was at about
3 O'Clock (by this I mean 90 degrees to my right if the direction I am
travelling in is 0 degrees) sometimes it was at about4/5 O'clock
sometimes at about one O'Clock but mostly at about 2 O'Clock but always
to the right of my direction of travel. Now I might have got this very
wrong, but I thought that a full moon when the sun is setting is in the
East (opposite the sun in the west). As the moon looked almost full I
thought it would have been almost in the East, but if this was the case
and I was travelling in a south-east direction then the moon should
have been on my left hand side surely!
If anyone can throw some light on this I would be most interested to
learn how this happened, otherwise I think the moon might have been
moved ;)
