Good thing we have the internet for more information. I would like to
see a more organized approach for testing optics, be they scopes or
ep's. There has to be a way of doing this that removes objectivity and
includes the all of the performance issues we want to hear...
Charles,
I think the internet is a mixed blessing. There doesn't seem to be a
telescope out there that someone doesn't consider "tack sharp and rock
solid." Many of the reviews on the internet seem very subjective and
objective information is still sadly lacking.
I am firmly in the "try before you buy" camp these days. The real question,
after all, is "am I going to be happy with the telescope." While reviews
may give me an idea which telescopes are worth considering, they can't give
a definite answer to that question. Fortunately, there are enough
conventions scattered across the country that this approach is much easier
than it used to be. Seeing a telescope in person is also a lot more fun
than reading a review - at least if the skies are clear <g>.
Clear skies, Alan
.
