As a matter of fact, one feature of a review should be the remedy
provided in the case of getting a defect item. Does the company
exchange it promptly? Pay for the return shipping? Inquire about the
malfunction of the item? Offer discount on a future purchase? Treat
the complaint professional and maturely?
The reviewer should inquire about the possible rasons for passing
defects. What QC is doen before shipping? Was there a mishap in a
batch of materials? Did a contractor goof? Was there some natural
incident like fire, flood, power cut?
Discussion of such matters will go a long way to let the reader
appreciate botht he product and the company.
When I wqas in school one summer job I had was a QC technician.
The factory made electric switch and connector items. These went thru
several stages of inspection. Incoming inspection examined materials
like wire, moldings, screws, cases, insulator tubing, plates and
boards. Assembly inspection took pieces off of the assembly tables and
checked for correct parts placement and mating. Performance testing
looked into the pressure, electric, magnetic, force properties of the
tem. Shipping inspection made sure the proper items, by order specs,
were packed along with any paperwork. The packing itself was inspected
to be sure the items were protected against breakage and water damage
suring shipment.
If this sounds like a hell of a lot of work, it is. That's one
rason this company hired summer students in engineering. I with the
others had to set up the jigs and meters for each kind of test. Read
the specs for the factors to look at. Study internal fuides for
finish, deburring, fit and mating. We had to apply AQL methods for the
various size of jobs, whether it be for a dozen switches or myriads of
wires in harnesses.
The payoff was very few returns or complaints from ur customers.
It was a good satisfaction to learn, by phone or fax, that a job was
received and accepted by our customers. Believe me, the CUSTOMER did
his OWN inspection of what WE sent to him!
