"Good enough" will get you to the eyepiece more often and without
perfection goals that will never be completely squelched. A well-maintained
scope with no more than decent optics (by perhaps surprisingly low
criteria) on a fairly stable mount will bring much happiness. It will also
bring something else. . .peace of mind.

enjoy building a harp with good tone rather than a twang box. I enjoy
making a "really good" mirror more than an "ok" mirror. As has been
pointed out, "when are the skies good enough to use the extra
capability?", well, seldom.
But on those nights, when the public and other owners are lining up at
my homebuilt instrument and all the others are standing unused it gives
me a (smug) glow.
My "peace of mind" comes from a job well done and a beer after. Each to
his own.
