Check out southeastern Montana on the national map:

The size of the fires will be revealed when you place your curser on
the red spots.

The sun as seen (at times) from my neck of the woods has been a much
deeper red than Herschel's Garnet star while the moon has come up
looking like it was undergoing a total lunar eclipse. Last night a
*large* red glow was visible high in my sky from one of the fires.

At the moment my location is 'safe'. We tend to get fires like these
every few years; but it's always kind of scary. One never knows what
the wind will do or when or where new lightening strikes will occur.

In my rural area I get only national/international news -- no local
news (no local stations). The national coverage so far has only
mentioned the California fires, so I thought I would 'leak out' that
there are more (and larger!) fires burning in Montana.

Bill;

Hope that you are not in danger from the fires. One of my brothers-in-law had the El Cajon fire in his back yard.

The reason you are not mentioned in the news is because there are more cows where you are than people ;^). California has more people than sense. They keep living there despite getting burned out every few years.

While I did not go outside the other night to look at the moon my back yard looked like it was being illuminated by a large stop light.
