Naked eye Sunspot

Those with the opportunity and the equipment to do so may want to
engage in a bit of solar observing over the next few days.

A few days ago Sam Wormley made a posting calling attention to a new
sunspot group. Thanks Sam!

Today I got a chance to take a look with a properly filtered 102mm SCT
at 100x. After the telescopic session (lasting nearly an hour) I held
up the objective filter and noticed that one spot was clearly visible
to the naked (filtered) eye.

Under good seeing conditions quite a bit of detail can be seen in the
current sunspot group. As a general rule, for solar work, seeing is
better in the morning or afternoon. Lunch hour observing tends to be
accompanied by the worst seeing; but if that's the only time available
it's better than nothing!
