then you should quote a reference for the figure that
explains the method of derivation and reasoning behind
the error estimate

Since I'm not writing a scientific paper, I don't feel compelled to do
so. The point of the essay is not so much what the figure is, as much
as there is one--that there is (at least within a few billion light-
years) a linear relationship between distance and recession velocity.
But you should feel free to write a web critique explaining where such
figures come from.
