Re: Which astronomy magazines do you read?

I have not subscribed to either of the two well known US astronomy
magazines for several years now. Am I missing anything?

I subscribe to Sky and Telescope and to its sister publication, Night
Sky. In the parent magazine, I like reading about anything to do with
amateur optics, practice or theory. I also like reading the reviews,
the news notes, the astrophysics articles, and the various observing
articles. That wide gamut probably explains why I'm still subscribing
to it. :)

As far as Night Sky is concerned, I'm always curious to see how old
familiar topics are explained to the beginner (looking for new tricks
to add to my bag), and Night Sky is a good place to look for those.

I occasionally buy an issue of Astronomy magazine, if there's some
article in there that looks particularly intriguing. It was such an
instance (the December 1997 issue of Astronomy) that led to my returning
to amateur astronomy after a long absence.

I don't think you're missing anything as such, since you can get most
of what you can find in Sky and Telescope on the Web, but you do get
some vetting (remember Leif Robinson's parting shot?) and they do
collect everything inside a convenient cover.
