You overestimate the state of AI NLP (natural language processing).
ELIZA, which is a very old and relatively stupid AI program that simulates a psychologist by rearranging and parroting back what people type to it, fooled a lot of people back in the old days.
That doesn't mean that ELIZA was good AI, but that most people are bad at telling the difference between a person sending them messages, and a program doing the same (the classic Turing test).
