Re: Advice on eye pieces

Thanks for the replies!

I too had considered the EP and filter set but I've had the scope just too
long to qualify for half price. With what you've told me there's no way I'm
going to consider it now.

I'm going to have a look at the EP's you've suggested - I just want one that
will give me a little more without having to use my Barlow, which I believe
can decrease the clarity of vision (?).

I'm presuming you're in the UK (?), I'm in the Liverpool area myself and
suffer all the ambient light issues you describe. I'm looking at lumping my
scope to Devon at the end of Feb for a week - the skies down there can be
fantastic!
I've also found this place that you may want to take a look at (kids
allowing) www.astroadventures.co.uk , having kids myself the prices don't
seem too unreasonable.

Thanks again

Steve

I know its a bit naff to answer your own post but after doing some
research
I thought others (like Steve) might want to know..........The LER set isnt
that good according to people who've bought it for their
Skywatchers.........but apparently Antares EP are pretty good value for
money........some say as good as Meades..........so I've maybe saved
myself
(or kids) some money......

Still want clear dark skies though!............

I too have just recently got a Skywatcher Explorer 130PM and apart from
having only 3 clear skies in a fortnight I have no complaints........The
scope meets and exceeds my expectations for a "budget" scope.........I
would love a £2K SCT but there again my 3 children under 5 years old also
like eating and wearing clothes! (The selfish buggers)

Anyway........I found that on these 3 nights it was the viewing that was
limiting my observations rather than the scope......High level
cirrostratus, lower level mist, light pollution, next doors security
light
turning on at random times.....all the things you dont want.....I did
manage to see some old favourites like Pleiades, M31, Hyades, Mizar
double, Orion Nebula etc.....Plus some newer things like the starname we
purchased for my oldest daughter a mag 8.9 in Cepheus, NGC 7160,
M41......

So I was looking as well at eyepieces.......I do like the 25mm as it
gives
a nice wide angle and bright image (although a dark sy would
help).......I
then saw this set for 1/2 price for Skywatcher purchasers and wondered
if
it was worth considering.......I wouldve thought that the 2mm would be
pretty useless with a 650mm focal length and 130mm Primary (isnt that a
260x max mag?)......but the other EP would be ok........?

Still I would much rather have a rain, cloud, light pollution free night
than more eyepieces..........

Dear All

I have a Skywatcher 130P (650 focal length) which came with 10mm and
25mm
eye pieces.

I bought a X3 Barlow to compliment these I and get reasonable results
(now
that I've learned a bit about collimation - thanks for the help!). I
have
noticed however that planets still seem small even at the higher mag
and
I've heard that this is more due to the quality/design of the eye
pieces
(modified Keller I believe Skywatcher use). If anyone can enlighten me
further I'd appreciate it.

The main purpose for my post is to ask advice about an addition eye
piece
and possibly some lenses for my scope. I'm particularly interested in
planetary and lunar observation plus I would like something that could
help
me make out galaxies or nebula better. Bearing in mind what I have
currently
(and that I'm on a budget!) please can you advise as to my best
options.

Thanks in advance and clear skies

Steve
