The cause for the 'rings closing' is due to the variations in the path
of the Earth and Saturn and not something which is due to variable
inclination as the following article erroneously explains -

Taking the Earth's orbital path into account or at least appreciating
its existence through events like the rings of Saturn should spur
genuine investigators on to considering the change in the Earth's
orbital path over an annual orbit rather than variable inclination as
the cause of global climate and hemispherical weather patterns
(seasons).
