QUESTION FROM NEWBIE ON MIRROR GRINDING

Hi all,
I am new to amateur astronomy and am thinking of making a 6-8 inch
reflector telescope. However the problem is that blank glass to make a
mirror is not available in Pakistan. Moreover it is difficult and very
expensive to import such items into the country.
Therefore I was researching the possibility of using locally available
glass for this purpose. My questions in this regard are therefore as
follows:
1. Is ordinary construction type glass usable for this purpose. The
thickness available is 12-19 mm (1/2 to 3/4 inches)? (This glass is
slightly greenish in colour.)
2. Can someone give some ideas whereby glass from some other very
common application can be used for this purpose?
Help is much appreciated.
Regards
Aurangzeb
