A good place to start would be for you to use your real name on your
posts but that isn't going to happen.

Gee, this tid bit from someone who used to hide behind a nom de plume
himeself not that long ago ??? Seems to be a little bit disingenuous to me.

For the many years I have been
taking from and contributing to sci.astro.amateur, there has always
been a constant desire expressed for a moderated version of the
group.

Maybe by the noobs. But the folks that have hung out here forever seem
to think that moderation is a bit of a slippery slope. And really what's
the point of yet another moderated Astronomy mailing list ? Or web based
forum. What are you specifically offering that isn't already handled by
the myriad of other choices ?

That ain't gonna happen usenet-wise so I am spending my money
and my time (lots of it) to offer that alternative to those who want
it, WHEN THEY WANT IT.

Maybe you should look a little deeper into *why* you would want to spend
your money and time doing this ????? Hopefully not some attempt to be a
big fish in a little pond ?

Besides why not just another yahoo group and then you can tout yourself
as the mailing list *owner* and not have to spend any money.

I make no apologies to anyone that this had to
be done in a web based forum. . .

It didn't - think yahoo, cloudynights, astromart lists etc etc

but a forum nonetheless composed of
your fellow sci.astro.amateur members.

Probably just the noobs except for one or two.

Have you visited the site? If
you did, you would surely recognize some of our contributors and
members names from the usenet sci.astro.amateur.

So what will you get there that you can't get here from those very same
s.a.a regulars ? And not have to subject ones self to being "moderated"

I have lit a candle in an effort to stop some from cursing the
darkness.

Some might think that it might be more like shouting at the wind

A visit to Moderated sci.astro.amateur will reveal what I
bet is what you and others would like to see sci.astro.amateur
become.

Not me. And a lot of others have indicated that moderation isn't exactly
a good solution.

Say what you want, but nothing anyone can assert will
diminish the good intent I had in creating and have in maintaining the
site.

Hmmmmmmm whistling past a graveyard ?

As for my updates for goings on over there, if you don't want to read
them, then don't. They have been, and will continue to be, clearly
marked as such.

Not a lot different from continually being a shill for your own
purposes. But with s.a.a. being what it is I would certainly agree that
you have the right to post what you want. Without fear of being
moderated by anyone. And in the spirit of fair play <g> Are you going to
make postings on your own "list" about the happenings here on s.a.a ?

Bill

Hey Bill, I don't like you either. But your dislike for me doesn't
lend validity to your not so subtle attacks on me or my motives.
Enough said. You are not missed at the site and low level flames like
the one you have posted here are not welcome there. You belong right
where you are.
