The first/next thing you should do is to join your local astro club, where you will meet folks with all kinds of equipment and interests, and from whom you can learn a lot and with whom you can participate in all kinds of club events. Until then, don't spend any more money.

Unless of course you've gotten into backyard astronomy for the experience of self reliance, solitude, contemplation, meditation (dare I say in some cases mediation?), and relaxation because the other activities you're involved in on a daily basis (say at work.. no not me ;-)) are overwhelmingly complicated by egocentric interpersonal relationships that are all too often accompanied a high level and sour mix of testosterone (or estrogen as the case may be) and bookworm intellect.
