Amazing comet

Saw the 17P/Holmes comet naked eye, in 7*50 binoculars, and in my
daughter's 67mm Newonian last night (about 17 UT). Also managed to
take some wide-angle photos with my digital camera, while waiting for
the plumber to come fixing our water pump (after me emptying and
cleaning out the well and forgetting to turn off the pump... duh!).
As others have pointed out, this amazing comet is very bright (I
judged it sligtly brigher than nearby delta Persei [mag 3]) and
appears stellar to the naked eye as well as in my images (using a 35mm
objective). In binoculars and in the small telecope (@15x) it was a
definitely not stellar, but appeared as small yellow fuzzball with an
intense core. Haven't seen anyting like it at least since
Hale-Bopp. There was a slight, but moon-lit haze, and later clouded
over, so I didn't get to set up my larger scopes.
Amazing sight. Thanks to s.a.a. for alerting me on this one in time,
before several days of rainy forecast. Also thanks to Greg Crinklaw
for his Comet chasing page providing maps and information (although in
this particular case a map was not really needed!)
