Hi:
I saw them in my 6" Maksutov at 60x but was informed
by another observer that it is not a split but:
"There are 2 stars near the nucleus. According to ECU, they are
GSC0333400738, mag 10.9, and GSC0333400788, mag 8.7."

A friend just reported seeing the "split nucleus" in an 8-inch Dob, so I
checked TheSky. As of 2:00 UT on Oct 29, 2007 (22:00 EDT Oct 28) that 8th
mag star is only one arc minute from the calculated position of Holmes.
Another friend shows the second "object" in his recent CCD image and says
that it is not "keeping up" with the comet. I doubt that the comet is
breaking up and people are just seeing a bright background star.
