There is quite a debate raging on the comets-ml forum because people
are applying a rotational gradient filter and coming up with all sorts
of detail (which likely isn't real). Yours is the first image to show
structure that looks true to me.
I don't like rotational gradient filters, as I tend not to trust what I
see. The processing of this image was simple- just a mild unsharp mask
and some "S" stretching with the inflection point between the light and
dark areas of structure. Most of the images I've posted so far have had
a square root transfer function applied to flatten the dynamic range,
but this last image has only the "S" curve.
I felt pretty good about the image because there was nothing in my
processing that should add that much structure. Now that Andrea has
posted his image and I see the same structure, all the better.
