Interestingly, the reason for not gathering data easily on the asteroid's trajectory is that the bright moon is interfering with this very faint object. Presently, it is quite close to the moon in the sky. The orbital geometry is such that the object will get dimmer over the next many weeks. Larger telescopes will be needed to track it.
I would think it might be difficult to enlist the Keck and other instruments of that size.
