In any event, I believe the differences are as follows:
1. The etalon in the PST is internal, and smaller (25 mm aperture).
But because the light cone envelope is smaller on the inside of
the scope, this isn't a huge issue.
2. The bandpass, as noted on the page, is < 0.7 A in the SM 40, and
< 1.0 A in the PST. This tends to make disc detail a bit harder
to see in the PST, though prominence detail off the limb is not
severely affected.
In short, the SM 40 performs noticeably better, though not tremendously
so. Still, at the PST's price, it's hard to say no to that kind of
introduction to H-alpha observing.
