I have 4+ magnitude skies. Cassiopeia is fully visible.
I am using a 25mm plossl. The Double Cluster is visible in binoculars,
but I can't seem to make out distinct individual stars in either
cluster. I do see a large circular group of stars just north of the
clusters.
My finder is an Orion EZ red dot finder.
How much magnification does the 25mm provide in your scope, where M=focal
length of scope in mm / 25mm? Given that number M, compute the true field
of view TFOV=50degrees/M. Is the tfov around 2 degrees, or more? It is
surprising that you can see the Double Cluster in your binos, but not in
your scope. The circular group of stars you see may be Stock 2, but if it is
I don't know why you wouldn't see the Double Cluster.
Have you ever been in touch with your local astro club? I think it would
help a lot if you could observe with some experienced folks - look through
their scopes and have them look through yours.
