The true field of my 25mm is 1.4. Eventually, when I upgrade to a
larger telescope, I will consider buying another eyepiece with a
larger FOV. I think for now, determining west in the eyepiece will
help me considerably.

A wider field eyepiece would be helpful. Though now that I've thought
about it, most of the time I use about a 1.0 degree field with the
telescope when I'm working on acquiring a new object, but I have the
added benefit of working under a darker sky . . .

When objects drift west in a reflector, is this true west or west
flipped horizontally and vertically?

The drift direction is true west in the telescopes field of view
(though west to the naked eye may be very different). It doesn't
matter what kind of telescope is being used, what kind of star
diagonal (if any), etc. It works perfectly under all circumstances
for finding true west *within* your telescopic field.

Hi Bill,
Perhaps I should also upgrade my finder. I am using a small 1x red
dot finder from Orion. The Telrad is probably too big for my 4.5 Dob.

Do you view with a SCT- you mentioned that your field of view is 1
degree, and the Celestron Nexstar field of view is 1 degree, as I
recall.
