On this early Wednesday I got lucky and woke up to another clear
morning! After Venus rose above the treetops, 8x42 binoculars easily
revealed Mercury less than one degree directly above the brighter
'morning star'. Unfortunately, from 45+ degrees north latitude these
planets don't (currently) rise above my treetops until the morning sky
has already brightened quite a bit. The background sky was too bright
to be positive concerning a naked-eye sightning of Mercury.
Nevertheless, a quick view of the innermost planets is a good way to
start the day! Hopefully others have been or will be lucky enough to
similarly begin their morning.
