I assume you mean the ecliptic plane, not the equatorial plane?
Sun is rising up in the Milky way, just below the Eagle nebula.
Correct, but this time exactly where the Galactic and equatorial plane
crosses, dead on.
The sun crosses the galactic plane twice a year, every year. Nothing
particularly special about 2012. Before you say that the solstice
occurs exactly on the galactic plane in 2012, well it doesn't. The
solstice point crossed the galactic plane in 1998. By 2012, the sun
crosses the galactic plane about 5 hours after the solstice. Rather
less 'dead on' than 1998, 2008, etc.
