Cleaning Optics and Old Small Scopes

I had a roommate deposit on me the following:
- Bausch & Lomb Balscope Twenty
It is labeled '20x' and is a moss green color. It adjusts by rotating
the black small end. It doesn't seem to be built with provisions for
screw on caps so I'll be hunting for something like yogurt tops that
fit the two ends. (Hmmm, where is that Tupperware gal when you need
her?)
This thing reminds me of the old fashion Nautical scope, even though
it doesn't telescope out & it's likely a forest type design nor does
it give any indication of being hardened against salt, etc. It just
'feels' like one.
- Swift spotters' scope (it doesn't have any discernible model
numbers)
Now this one is more interesting; it came w/ a tripod and both outside
lenes are larger than the B&L.
Also it has two different adjustments, one is marked 10-60m/33-200ft
on one thumb wheel and 15x to 60x on the adjustment nearer the eye
piece.
I think this latter one has some problem as the wheel starts at 30x
and wraps around past 60x to find the 15x and 20x marks. I think it's
out of position in regards to the actual movement inside.
Its colored a kind of putty beige, both scope and short legged mount.
It also comes with screw in lens caps, as Martha says "it's a good
thing".
Now, after getting something 'new', well new to me, I usually like to
disassemble it a bit and clean and recondition it. (This works real
well with things like cars, not so much with living things.)
I want to 1st do now harm so balling up a wad of toilet tissue is of
course out of the question. For now I'll do nothing as they look
decent enough (the Swift is fully capped) but the B&L needs
_something_ don't eventually because it has what looks like water
spots and/or oil sheen on it's two ends.
In any case I did a search and I'm still reading some of them but I
thought it'd be interesting if any of you folks knew about these at
all.
