Seriously, you delete posts that are old? I don't know of any web-based
forums that do that. Seems like a terrible idea.

Moderated sci.astro.amateur is not in the same league as most web-based
groups. We have no ads but several fairly active members. There are a
few members with around a hundred posts each. There are many members
with 30 or so posts. There are also people that join and never return
again for any reason. I recently deleted about 40 or so of those
people. It doesn't matter. The forum was designed for and is
maintained for the benefit of an active membership and if people wish to
lurk then it is completely viewable to guests.

....but it's still a bad idea to delete old posts. The only valid reason
to delete a post would be if it violated the policy of the forum.

Members of the forum come across as happy and content and we seem to
have a good time in our small, yet functional, little forum. Who gives
a rat's **** what other big time and well-budgeted (albeit by
advertising dollars) forums do and how they run their sites. No, we
don't have the sheer numbers of posts found here at sci.astro.amateur
and unlike sci.astro.amateur, we don't have people posing questions just
to see their names and words in print.

With its several dedicated and prominent members plus lots of other very
fine people, Moderated sci.astro.amateur is well-grounded and serves an
ever-evolving role.

If you haven't, then why not give it more than a 60 second examination.
You may discover a surprise or two. Like our newest feature, a
direct link to diggs.com on every topic created. This allows the poster
of a topic, or a reader of that topic, to reach a vast readership that
is demographically different -- while at the same time sharing common
interests -- than sci.astro.amateur or Moderated sci.astro.amateur could
ever reach.

Take a peek at our MEMBER MAP, as linked from the horizontal index bar
at the top of the forum. Challenge yourself with some of the great
strategy/puzzle games found in our ARCADE which is also linked from the
horizontal index bar of the forum.

....oh I see --- it's not just a forum, it's also a GAME SITE! Well,
that may explain why you think old posts are uninteresting.....

I'll check it out. I think I already did some time in the past but found
it uninteresting due to the sparseness of posts. Maybe there are more
posts now --- however I'm already a member of a number of other web
forums, so joining yet another one is't that appealing to me. Sometimes
there's just too much diversification....

Just one more though: since you named your forum "Moderated Sci Astro
Amateur", doesn't that name suggest your forum tries to be a replacement
for sci.astro.amateur ? If so, perhaps you should listen a bit more to what
oldtimers on Usenet have to say. If not, perhaps you should consider
changing the name of your forum, to something which better reflects its
actual aim? What about e.g. "Astronomy Arcade" ..... :-)

Just don't be surprised who you run into at the forum.
