That explains so much :-)
Our ranch a few miles away
(which will eventually have a home and bigger observatory) is at 9,700
feet.
Ohmigod, it's gonna get worse!
By the way, as a flatlander (originally a hillbilly, actually) I always
thought that altitude referred to the distance from mean sea level of
things not touching the Earth (aircraft, e.g.) while elevation
described one's distance from mean sea level while earthbound (standing
atop a 9,040 ft. mountain, e.g.). No?
Im guessing my own elevation at about 200 feet. Elevations in my county
range from sea level (Chesapeake bay shore) to 320 feet. We tend to
stay away from the 320-ft. area for fear of nosebleed.
