each by a small thred or wire, directly over the said Meridian, at the

the same line exactly...you are then immediately to set the Watch, not
precisely to the hour of 12. but by so much less, as is the Aequation
of the day by the Table."

At the Equator, there would be no variation whatsoever in the apparent
elevation of the Sun,at higher latitudes, variations occur and at polar
latitudes extreme variations occur.

The specific and fascinating way a planet orbits the Sun by a slow
change in its orbital orientation to the central Sun can be
appreciated in that time lapse footage .It is a bit easier to see why
the natural noon cycles vary due to an orbital component by analogy
and by imagining that you are looking at a crankpin head on as it
'orbits' the central shaft -

The variations in the natural noon cycle whn allied with axial
rotation affirms the presence of the orbital component as the slow
turning motion is in accordance with Kepler's view of orbital motion
and geometry. and explains why there are no seasonal variations in
daylight/darkness at the Equator but North and South experiences
seasonal variations.
The analemma has no place in astronomy, never did.
It is not correct to say there are no seasonal variations in day/
night at
the equator. During our spring and fall, the days are longer at the
equator. It is not a lot but easily measured. This can be easily seen
by exaggerating the angle of the sun and using a spherical Earth.
As for analemma, as one move North or South from the equator,
there is a tilt ( I'd have to think which way ) of the analemma. This
is caused by the tilt of the Earths axis.
Dwight,
I know you are doing your best and I also know so many here have come
to rely on a 'tilting' Earth that they may miss exactly what causes
both the variations in the noon cycles and seasonal daylight/darkness
variations.
The problem may actually be no more than the word 'tilt' as it is both
a noun and a verb such as the Northern hemisphere 'tilts' towards the
Sun in winter and away in summer.,The Northern hemisphere does no such
thing, the actual cause is the specific way our planet orbits the Sun
where a location slowly turns through 360 degrees with respect to the
central Sun rather than a given location keeping the same side to the
Sun like a car travelling around a traffic circle keeps the same side
to the center.
So Dwight, the daily rotation of the Earth causes you to experience
daylight and darkness and generates that wondeful rotational
orientation that you call 'tilt' .The seasonal variations comes from
another source, the specific way a planet orbits the Sun,this seperate
motion to daily rotation is best appreciated through variations in the
natural noon cycle as the orbital compoent does not change through 360
degrees evenly but changes in accordance with Kepler's view of orbital
motion and geometry.
Now Dwight, remember that we now live in the 21st century and have a
clear view of the Earth from space and you can enjoy what is happening
from that perspective -

Count yourself fortunate to have the seasons explained to you in a
new way by using actual time lapse footage of the planets in motion
and for those who wish to delve further, they can appreciate what
causes the natural noon cycles to vary by applying the combination of
daily rotation, the global orbital orientation change of a location
using natural noon as a benchmark.Even in this inforrmation saturated
era, this large modification is worth pursuing and especially now given
the lack of interest the wider population has in respect to astronomy.
Time to set aside the pseudo-dynamic of 'tilt' and look at what is
actually happening.
Since, observation of the Sun is part of astronomy, the statement
that is has no place is also not correct. You may not like this but
that is life. The real universe doesn't care what you like.
The vertical axis of the analemma is caused, mostly, by the tilt of
the Earth
axis. The spread or horizontal is, mostly, caused by the elliptical
orbit.
These two do interact a little since the Earth tilt doesn't line up
exactly with the major axis of the orbit.
