While inclined to extend sympathy to Susan Palin for the family
tragedies with which she is struggling - at least, her erring daughter
is marrying the father, so if he can hold down a job, this one is not
the end of the world - but then there is also the other one of an
infant child suffering from a terrible disability.

This one is not really any one's fault, and I fully support her
decision to spare that child's life despite his disability.

I strongly support Governor Palin's choice in the sad matter of the
child with Down Syndrome. I would also strongly support her if she had
decided to abort her pregnancy.

I deeply regret that the Governor doesn't respect the right of other
women to make their _own_ choices in such a case, but believes that her
opinions must be forced on all women. (Sorry, Guv. I know you call them
Universal Truths, but they are just your opinions. You have a right to
hold and act personally upon those opinions. Others have the right to
hold and act upon their own opinions.)

Ditto her "creationism" belief. My country cannot afford four or eight
more years during which the governing party is anti-science and panders
to those who want to force the teaching of fundamentalist religion in
our schools in direct contravention of the U.S. Constitution.

Some argue it's OK, because so-called "creation science" has lost every
time; it simply cannot be made to look like anything other than what it
is--the attempt to cram a narrow and wrong interpretation of the book
of Genesis down the throat of every public school child. But the time,
money, and energy that the schools and/or citizenry have to spend
defending our children and our Constitution could surely be used to
improve the quality of education if expended in other ways.

As for the Governor's daughter, so much for the fundamentalist argument
that abstention works.
