Ah yes, the man who promotes his web site in ***every*** posting!
Pot - kettle - black, John.
John uses a signature of no more than 4 lines, each of no more than 80
characters. The signature is separated from the main text of his post by
a "-- " (dash dash space).
This is within the limits that, historically, has always been an
acceptable Usenet convention. In other words, it is the way people have
been doing things on Usenet for years.
John's signature appears on posts that he makes that are genuine posts,
communicating something. He doesn't make straw man posts, devoid of
other content, whose sole purpose is to promote his website.
Unfortunately, this is how many of your posts come over - having been
criticised for posting about your website so often, your more recent
posts appear rather contrived, whose main purpose is to push your
website yet again.
I am sure that your motives are genuine, but if you really think that
saa is such a worthless place, I really don't see why you persist in
posting here.
If I may make a constructive suggestion. Put the information about your
website in a signature, similar to John's or mine, adhering to Usenet
conventions:
1) Separated from the post by "-- " (the space is important)
2) No more than 4 lines of 80 characters.
Then take time to post something genuinely interesting here, perhaps
once a month (or more, even). By "interesting" I mean something about
your astronomy hobby, observations you have made, what you enjoy doing.
It is clear from what I have seen of you, that you actually have plenty
to contribute; you are just going about it in the wrong way, and rubbing
people's backs up.
This will establish you once more as a contributor to the group, rather
than as a drive-by, and it will still get your message across.
Finally, I would suggest you try reading saa using a proper newsreader,
rather than through Google Groups. This isn't snobbery, it really does
make a difference. It makes it easy to follow threads (conversations),
and to filter out most, if not all, of the spam that you think is making
this group unusable. I see very little spam here, and I could even
trivially filter you out, but I choose not to, because I think you have
something to contribute.
I use XNews, which is a bit old and archaic, but does exactly what I
want it to. I believe other people use Thunderbird, but I quite like
having my news reader as a completely stand-alone piece of software.
If you need any help or advice regarding this, you can contact me via
the link below.
The bottom line is that Usenet, while still interesting, is falling in
popularity, compared to other methods of internet communication.
However, this means that most people regularly reading Usenet are here
because they want to be, so constantly trying to persuade them that
their chosen forum us crap will win you no friends.
Finally, I have to agree with a previous poster - calling yourself
"ukastronomy" is a little pretentious.
