Years ago, I bought Ron Wodaski's first book. It covered a lot of the
basics and was informative. It seems he still has a web site:
http://www.newastro.com/
Wodaski's book, "The New CCD Astronomy," his website and his Yahoo!
discussion group, ccd-newastro, have lots of good stuff. However, most of
the people in the discussion group are very advanced. His website leaves
you with the idea that if you don't have an Astro-Physics or Bisque mount,
you're wasting your time. There's also at least one dedicated Yahoo! group
for the Meade cameras, and one might start there. The problem with
Wodaski's book is that, for a beginner, it contains too much! For me, it's
been more useful as a reference as I gained experience rather than as a
"getting started" manual. Starizona has some good tutorials for SBIG
cameras and CCDOps software -- maybe they have something for Meade. I
haven't looked. For me, the biggest help in getting started was having
someone else to look over my shoulder.

where do I start ,what else is needed too,I have a cheapo Meade ccd

power supply. A laptop? with a video card? A dvr? I'd eventualt like
to process and stack my images at home and still be able to upgrade
to a real CCd imager from Orion and still use the same recording

The devil is in the details...Do you have any documentation on your
Meade imager that describes how it was used / a model number? Step one
is figuring out what you have -- and then how it was meant to be
operated. Then you might be able to start sorting things out.
My cameras are older SBIG CCDs. In my case, the camera "head" connects
to a "control box" which in turn connects to my computer by a rs232
serial port. SBIG provided a camera control program that included some
basic image processing. I would think that Meade likely would have
done similar - but I've never used a Meade unit.
