By the way, I am delighted to learn it crossed your mind as well.
Obviously, I am not the only one who is nuts. :-)

Anthony,

The second I saw your post I *knew* what you were up to <lol> And it is
a worthy target. But I doubt that the magnitude of "B" is the largest
issue. As Chris suggested the "spread" of "A" is likely to be enough to
engulf "B" with your optics. An occulting bar in a filter slot will not
work as has been mentioned. What about a Mask applied to the chip itself ?

Which brings up the subject of the optical window. Wouldn't the presence
of this itself contribute to the failure of the project ?

Hi Bill,

I sent an email to Michael Barber at SBIG enquiring if he has any
camera with successive columns comprised of dead pixels. If I can
locate a chip with a concentration of dead pixels, I would be very
happy.

On a similar note, I did some surfing and came across a fellow who has
masked his ST-7 for double star work and who has been quite
successful. For example, he has now managed to capture the various
members of Polaris (I knew about one member but not three or four as
he has managed to capture). Here are some links for anyone who may be
interested:

I also came across various references to Baader's Mark IV Coronagraph
and immediately sent an email to Thomas Baader when I could not locate
any sort of product webpage. His reply today confirmed my suspicions
and where he stopped production last year due to the drop in volume
and sales and which he attributed to Coronado's PST. Anyway, it seems
I was off the mark in this case since it is an occulting mask for the
sun so as to artificially eclipse the disk and thereby make the
prominences visible.

Finally, there is a fellow in Italy who produces a similar product
(ie. coronagraph) and I also sent him an email to see if something
could be done for bright stars in lieu of the sun. No reply yet.

Anthony.
