My own personal experience demonstrates this too. For years, I used webcams
and while they are good, my Starlight Express does better with far fewer
shots that need stacking. Like I said before, you have to be more patient
but in the end the results are surprising.
For planetary imaging, cooled cameras
To each his own. Not even close to my experience, however.
I have never ever seen results as good using any cooled astronomical
camera. Who cares if you have to obtain thousands of frames? It's
easier and quicker than obtaining far fewer stills from an astro CCD.
It is possible to do good shots of the Solar System using an astro
camera, but webcams and other video type cameras will always do
better.
