Don't forget that well known planetary imager Erik Ng actually used a
peltier cooled webcam, and thus ended up stacking far fewer frames than the
typical webcammer.

I'm not sure why you are so concerned about number of frames. The more
frames, the lower the noise. I'll stand by my original statement--in
spades--a webcam or, better a high-speed imager like the Lumenera will
beat the pants off an astrocam. I have used both, btw.
But if you like imaging the Solar System with an SBIG, more power to
you. Some folks have, indeed, done great work with 'em, like Ed
Grafton. I'd be interested in seeing your results, BTW...
