Yes, and the Intel 4004 microprocessor came about because a Japanese
calculator company, Busicom, wanted specialized integrated circuits
from Intel. NASA certainly did buy computers, both for use on the
ground, and in its spacecraft, but although occasionally the space
program is cited in a vague, nonspecific way as driving the
microelectronic revolution, the only specific item I've seen that
comes close is the one related to the military rather than to space
exploration.
