abandon space, concentrate on living underground first

With all the problems with space travel and the poor worldwide economy, it's
time to abandon space (for a time at least) and concentrate on living
underground. Developing a high level proficiency for underground living
would make us basically immune to our atmosphere going bad, and the
environmental changes that would ensue, and also a high degree of protection
against future asteroid impacts. Once we have perfected the underground
environment, our next candidate might be the Moon or Mars of which time we
might resume exploration of near space. As we stand now, with hit and miss
space successes, and no sustaining underground habitation, our chances of
future survival as a species is weak at best.
