Re: Possible to make better Plossls?

Edmund Optics is offering "Tech Spec" aspherized achromats.  These are
like what are being used in some camera lenses, "hybrid" aspheres
consisting of glass lenses with a polymer coating applied that
functions as the aspheric surface.  Real aspheres (ground or molded
glass) still cost a fortune, but these are about $75-$95 a piece,
diameters running 9mm to 25mm and focal lengths from 12mm to 50mm.  It
should be possible to create higher-performance Plossl eyepieces using
these.

I readily admit that I don't really know much about optics (although I
know what I like), but I do know that Harry Siebert

makes eyepieces on his kitchen table (or at least, he used to make
them there), and that he uses a lot of glass from Edmund.

Harry is a very friendly guy and can talk your ear off about his
eyepieces, and I suspect that he would be more than happy to give you
his opinion about this glass you are talking about.
