Hi. Since I was a teenager, I have seen advertisements of Questar
telescopes and they have always seemed appealing to me, but expensive.

Now I can afford one. I am new to amateur astronomy and would like to
take a look at the more basic features of our solar system, perhaps
with photography. If I catch on, I would continue from there. A small,
easy to carry telescope would be a plus for me.

What is the opinion of the group on this brand?
Any specific model advisable?

Thanks for your feedback.

I've owned three. The 3.5" is really nice, well-built and lightweight for
what it is. Really a pleasure to use and own and I'd like another one. By
all means, buy the whole scope, not just the tube because that is what
makes the Questar a Questar. The 7" is also nice, but given its price-tag,
probably not competitive with well-made Russian Maks. From a practical
standpoint, other systems are far more modern, easier to use in the field.
For those who don't want to spend $5000, Meade's ETX is a reasonable
replacement and optically very similar. For astrophotography, I can't
recommend them because their design doesn't lend itself to anything but
planets.
