Then why does the US have the world's richest poor people?
Davoud:
The wags like to point out that this is the only country where people
/drive/ to the poorhouse.

Ever been to a third world country?
(You responded to _my_ post. Are you sure you meant to address your
questions to me? I apologize for wasting your time with my replies if
you did not.)
Yes. Not just "been to". Lived in the Third World from 1966-1993. SE
Asia, Middle East, East Africa.
Ever seen what rich is like in say Burkino Faso, or maybe Guinea Bissau?
No. Would Darfur be an acceptable substitute experience in your eyes?
Nameless, treeless, clusters of mud huts in the Eastern Sahara and
Nubian Deserts? Yemen? Cambodia during the war in the 70's and 80's?
The slums of Calcutta? The Palestinian refugee camps? My hometown in SW
Pennsylvania where the school cafeteria is open all summer to counter
malnutrition (even if the poor drive there to get their subsidized
meals)?
I've worked in both and there is a difference in scale between the rich
and poor in the US and in either of those two countries.
That's one reason I'm not sure you meant to reply to me. What made you
think I needed to be told that?
Looks like you need spend sometime with Habitat for Hummanity
That's another reason I'm not sure you meant to reply to me. You've
been around this forum for while, and you must know that I scoff at
others' suggestions as to what I "need" to be doing or where I "need"
to spend my time. For the purposes for which you are lecturing me, I am
satisfied that my 27 years in the Third World is sufficient. And if I
had had not lived in Third World for more than a quarter century I
still grew up in poverty and I still would not entertain strangers'
suggestions as to what I need to understand about poverty.
Once again, my apology if your questions were misdirected.
