I agree (and disagree!) with both you and Jon. I see a fundamental
difference (to date) in what is available on the Internet and what is
available in more traditional print format. The Internet is clearly the
place to look for timely material: I get lots of astronomical
information that way, and it would be of little use or interest by the
time it showed up in print. What is sorely lacking on the Internet is
focused analysis of astronomical data. S&T articles are a good place to
find this, however. I enjoy reading the analysis provided by experts,
which is generally a better read than your typical Wikipedia article! So
I think that for the near future there will remain a distinction between
timely information (typically free and widely distributed) and the
traditional article style of analysis (sometimes free, but often
available only by some type of subscription).

That said, I agree with Davoud about distribution. Printed books may or
may not remain popular, but I think there is no future in printed
newspapers or magazines. The publishers of these things will switch to
dedicated electronic reader formats or they will perish. It is pretty
clearly silly with today's technology to be printing and mailing paper
newspapers and magazines.
