DOUBLE FLYBY ALERT: On Tuesday, Sept. 8th at 3:26 p.m. EDT, space shuttle Discovery undocked from the International Space Station (ISS). The two spaceships are now circling Earth side by side, forming a pair of bright lights in the night sky. Check http://spaceweather.com to see if you are favored with a double flyby of your hometown before Discovery returns to Earth on Thursday.

Thanks for the heads up, literally. ;)

Observers in the *northeast* US should start looking around 8:00pm EDT. The Shuttle will come from the southwest, pass close to overhead (8:09 for eastern NY state) and move away to the east. The ISS (Space Station) is supposed to be about a minute behind on approximately the same track. There is another pass starting with the Shuttle at about 9:40pm for the northeast which goes low over the northwest horizon from west to northeast. That pass favors locations in western NY but can still be seen in eastern New England if the northwest horizon is clear and free from light pollution.

Here's another website for satellite tracking. Go to the database and find the city nearest your area.
