Re: Online Shared Observation Logs???

Hi Marc.

I had a look for something like this a couple of years ago, but unfortunately couldn't find anything. I ended up writing my own, which is (still) developing at the awkward speed of my dwindling free time at http://www.earlymorning.org/ . You're welcome to play with it, but it's not really in a production state at the moment and possibly may never be.

My main interest with it has been in collating lots of information together and being able to generate interesting reports about the sorts of things people are doing, perhaps to help encourage other people to do things and record what they're doing. It hasn't exactly gotten to that point yet, though, particularly considering that I'm the only person who uses it. :)

There are almost certainly some offline observation logging tools around that will generate some html for you to upload to a website, if that's suitable. I haven't used any beyond superficially, but someone else here may be able to suggest one.

As well as that, I think there's also a PHP/MySQL project somewhere that I found a couple of months ago. The developers seemed to be implying that it's intended for clubs to set up a similar website for their members to log observations in a similar way. Unfortuantely I can't remember what it's called or the URL, and I couldn't find it at all when I tried searching a week ago, but someone else following the group might be able to. I *think* that new versions might have been announced a couple of times in a sci.astro.* newsgroup within the last 6 months or so.

I hope this helps in some way. Mike. .
