The visual of heliocentric paths can only be sustained under the
assumption of a stationary Sun. In the galactic frame, both the Sun
and the Earth are in a free fall toward Galactic Center. In addition,
the Earth is in a free fall toward the Sun. As a result of two
free falls, Earth's galactic path becomes a curve (sine wave)
periodically crisscrossing the path of the Sun. The familiar
rotation of the solar system ceases; and possibly galactic
rotation as well. Credit to Don Hamilton: http://novan.com
