Yes. And of course, the Voyagers were launched before the advent of
a number of modern high precision instruments, such as optical
interferometers, the HST, and Hipparcus. Still, if only a spacecraft at
large distance were up to the task, I think it'd be a prudent thing to
do, just as it would be a good idea to do the same for Pioneer Anomaly
data.
But as we know, it was a major odyssey just getting a probe launched
to Pluto in the first place. It's necessarily been stripped down to the
bone. So it's not surprising it won't be much good outside its box.
