Re: Solar rotation period

Jonathan

Nobody will have a problem with differential rotation in the mantle as
generating the Earth's deviation from a perfect sphere but the real
jewel is a more accurate mechanism for crustal motion of the component
fractured plates.

The real challenge is assigning the correct viscosity to the mantle and
by association its constituents based on the deviation from a perfect
sphere. So,you get to see the productive side of considering axial
rotation as an isolated motion and most certainly theorists should have
a ball with the dynamics of a rotating mantle (something other than a
solid).

Orbital motions such as Keplerian orbital motions are to the nth degree
more intricate than this material hence the distaste for the 17th
century Newtonian attempt that practically destroyed Copernican
heliocentric astronomy and its later refinements.

Go ahead and question Axel,he will tell you that Ptolemaic and
Copernican astronomers share the same plotting of the motion of the
planets against the background stars with the astrologers but
Ptolermaic/Copernican astronomers part company with astrologers in
isolating the motions of the planets and describing their motions
directly,Ptolemaics in periodic looping motions and Copernicans as a
faster Earth taking an inner obital heliocentric circuit to the slower
moving outer planets -

Newton unfortunately did something that would have horrified the
Ptolemaics never mind Copernicus and Kepler -

"For to the earth Planetary motions appear sometimes direct, sometimes
stationary, nay, and sometimes retrograde. But from the sun they are
always seen direct.."

Like differential rotation in the mantle you need a feel for these
things and to get out of the empirical rut which is causing this
atrophy.

I am prepared to just present differential rotation in the mantle as
the dynamic for the Earth's shape and if you can find an alternative
mechanism then good for you.
