I have read various speculations that Jupiter's period around the
sun may affect the sunspot cycle. Is there anything to this, or is
this hypothesis based on wild speculation?
Offhand, I'd guess this was a coincidence, since the sunspot cycle
is 22 years, making the half cycle 11 years. Jupiter's period is 12
years, and I'd guess any sunspot period caused by the tidal pulls of
the planets would be MORE than 12 years, since the synodic period
between Jupiter and any superior planet would be more than 11 years,
and the synodic period between Jupiter and Earth, the most massive
inferior planet is only about 1.5 years.
Have magnetic cycles been detected on any of the stars with Jupiter
size planets?
Is there any relationship between sunspot cycle and the orbital period
of the Jupiter sized planet?
